What This Tool Does
Instead of grinding through structures for smithing templates and testing colors in-game, this generator lets you preview any armor + pattern + material combo in 3D and instantly get a copy-paste /give command for Java Edition. Between 18 patterns, 11 materials, 6 armor tiers, and 4 gear slots, there are hundreds of millions of possible full-set looks — way more than anyone could realistically test by hand-crafting each one.
Armor trims themselves are purely cosmetic. They were added in the Trails & Tales update (1.20) and have picked up new materials since (Resin arrived in 1.21.4). Applying one at a smithing table changes how your armor looks — nothing about protection, durability, or enchantments changes.
Using the Generator
- Choose armor per slot. Helmet, chestplate, leggings, and boots can each be a different material — Leather, Chainmail, Iron, Gold, Diamond, or Netherite.
- Pick a pattern. All 18 smithing template designs are selectable, with the 3D view updating live.
- Pick a trim material. This sets the overlay color — mix and match per slot if you want.
- Spin the preview. Rotate the model and adjust the background to check the look from every angle.
- Grab the command. Each armor piece gets its own
/giveline, ready for Java 1.21+. - Try Random All if you're stuck for ideas — it throws together a full random set, which is a decent way to find combos you wouldn't have picked yourself.
The 18 Trim Patterns
Each pattern comes from a smithing template found in one specific structure type, and the drop rates vary a lot:
| Pattern | Where It Drops | Approx. Rate | Look |
|---|---|---|---|
| Sentry | Pillager Outpost | 25% | Geometric |
| Dune | Desert Temple | 14.3% | Sandstone motif |
| Coast | Shipwreck | 11.1% | Curved, nautical |
| Wild | Jungle Temple | 33.3% | Tribal |
| Ward | Ancient City | 5% | Angular, tech-like |
| Eye | Stronghold | up to 100% in some rooms | Ender-eye shape |
| Vex | Woodland Mansion | varies | Robe-like |
| Tide | Ocean Monument | guaranteed drop | Nautical lines |
| Snout | Bastion Remnant | varies | Piglin-inspired |
| Rib | Nether Fortress | 4.8% | Bone striping |
| Silence | Ancient City | 1.2% | Warden ribcage |
| Spire | End City | 6.7% | Checkered |
| Wayfinder | Trail Ruins (dig) | archaeology | Compass-like |
| Raiser | Trail Ruins (dig) | archaeology | Vertical bars |
| Shaper | Trail Ruins (dig) | archaeology | Curved |
| Host | Trail Ruins (dig) | archaeology | Segmented |
| Flow | Trial Chamber vault | vault loot | Swirls |
| Bolt | Trial Chamber vault | vault loot | Lightning motif |
Silence is the one everyone struggles to get — 1.2% from ancient city loot, guarded by the Warden. Wild is the opposite end of the spectrum at a 1-in-3 chance from jungle temples.

Applying Trims Without Commands
Build or find a smithing table (2 iron ingots + 4 planks), then combine: template on the left, armor piece in the middle, material on the right. The template gets consumed in the process.
To avoid re-farming templates, duplicate them: put the template in the center of a crafting grid, surround it with 7 diamonds, and add the matching base block (cobblestone for Sentry, sandstone for Dune, netherrack for Rib, etc.) in the last slot. That yields 2 templates back — a net gain of one, at the cost of 7 diamonds each time. Planning your build in the generator first saves you from burning diamonds on combos you end up not liking.
Combo Ideas Worth Trying
- Full Netherite, Silence pattern, Diamond material — the classic "dark armor, bright cyan trim" look, and arguably the hardest to obtain since Silence is the rarest template.
- Netherite with Spire or Ward, Amethyst material — purple against black, especially strong with shaders.
- Orange-dyed leather, Silence pattern, Netherite material — a lava-through-obsidian aesthetic.
- Brown-dyed leather, Vex pattern, Copper material — an earthy, robe-like set.
- Full Gold with Quartz or Iron trim — takes the edge off gold's brightness without hiding it.
- Mixed patterns per slot in matching materials — different templates per piece can still read as a coherent set if the material stays consistent.
Command Syntax (Java 1.21+)
/give @s diamond_chestplate[trim={pattern:"minecraft:silence",material:"minecraft:diamond"}] 1
@stargets yourself; swap for@p(nearest player) or@a(everyone).- Any armor material + slot combo works, e.g.
netherite_helmet,iron_boots. pattern:takes the lowercase template ID (sentry, dune, coast, wild, ward, eye, vex, tide, snout, rib, silence, spire, wayfinder, raiser, shaper, host, flow, bolt).material:takes the lowercase material ID (iron, copper, gold, lapis, emerald, diamond, redstone, amethyst, quartz, netherite, resin).
If the command runs past 256 characters (common once you stack in enchantments too), paste it into a command block instead of chat.
Bedrock Edition
Trims work the same way in Bedrock as of 1.20 — same structures, same smithing table process. The catch: most generators, including command-based ones, output Java's NBT-style syntax, which Bedrock doesn't read the same way. Bedrock players are better off using a generator purely to plan the look, then applying it manually at a smithing table in-game.
